Our final lesson in the discoveries of Archimedes was the principle of the center of gravity. To make this real, we first practiced balancing spoons on our fingers, standing on one leg and walking with a yard stick on our heads. To take it a bit further, we collected pine cones, pods, pieces of wood and other natural goodies and made a mobile. The idea was to create several layers and figure out how to balance them all together. It was a great lesson!
It reminded me that we all must have balance in our life. Jesus should be our center. He holds all things together. When we begin to get out of balance, we must come back to gazing upon the face of Jesus and rememeber what’s truly important. If He’s not the center, then we begin to lean, first a little, then a little more until we are all askew. The mobiles represent this reality perfectly. When Jesus is our all in all, then we are perfectly balanced!
